BioTX's WellAware Systems can be operated from a desktop PC with a water sealed monitor or ideally on a water resistant Slate PC. We have put together a number of system configurations based on the lab process to be performed. These preconfigured systems have the WellAware assessories and BioTX Lab Suite software modules required for the specified lab process.

Cherry (or Hit) picking of 24 samples takes only four minutes, with no errors when using WellAware! You can sort and reformat blood cards, swabs, or any type of sample from tubes or microplates into any translucent microplate or rack. You can now have your own personal automation for much less than the cost of a robot. Our clients report their hit picking and sorting protocols now take half of the time it once did. Large time savings are achieved when pipetting from bar-coded vials into microplates since WellAware will accept vials scanned in any order and can handle multiple plates going into a single plate.
Using WellAware for Cherry Picking ensures operator pipetting mistakes are eliminated since the operator is always following the audible and visual prompts while controlling the pace hands-free with the TipAware II IR sensor.

The WellAware™ Sample Sorting & Accessioning System is used to easily sort barcoded items like buccal swabs into microplates. Simply copy your barcode item list into WellAware along with the well location for each item in the plate and Run WellAware. The operator then scans the barcoded items in any order and the correct well will be illuminated for placement of that item.
Alternatively, an eSOP with placeholders for the barcodes can be run and WellAware will replace the placeholder with the scanned barcode. Once the plate is complete the data from the eSOP can be imported into LIMS or spreadsheets for accessioning of barcoded samples into a microplate.

The WellAware™ PCR and Sequencing System makes creating and saving protocols a snap. Protocols are saved with standards and controls predefined for the plate type and protocol used. To start, a previously saved protocol is loaded, the sample IDs and reagent lot numbers are entered. The protocol is then printed for the lab notebook and a plate maps may be printed for additional documentation. A button is pressed to make the eSOP automatically. The eSOP is then opened in the WellAware Module at which point WellAware will proceed to guide the operator through each pipetting step of the eSOP™ protocol using voice and light cues. Navigator Bars light up the pipetting screen under each correct position for 24, 48, 96, or 384-well microplates.
If the protocol uses a Master Mix, WellAware will automatically calculate the volumes required to make the Master Mix from the number of samples added to the protocol. When the protocol is pipetted WellAware will prompt the operator to make the Master Mix at the beginning of the pipetting.

The WellAware™ Normalization System allows the operator to create electronic Standard Operating Procedures (eSOP's) for a variety of normalization and dilution situations. For example, the UV Spec Normalization wizard allows microplate or cuvette spectrophotometer users to input OD readings which WellAware then uses to calculate pipetting volumes. The Nanodrop™ Normalization wizard works directly with the ND-1000 to input sample concentrations and calculate the needed normalization volumes. The Real-Time PCR Norm wizard communicates with ABI 7000 series instruments to use the calculated concentrations to normalize samples into a microplate. To speed pipetting the volumes can be sorted so that all like volumes are pipetted together thus minimizing pipet adjustment and potential errors.

The WellAware™ HLA & Forensic System includes the modules commonly used in tissue typing, HLA, or forensic laboratories. The Protocol Module is used to save protocols with standards and controls predefined for the plate type and protocol used. To start, a previously saved protocol is loaded, the sample IDs and reagent lot numbers are entered. The protocol is then printed for the lab notebook and plate maps may be printed for additional documentation. The Protocol Module can generate a plate map that can be imported into an ABI 7000 series real time PCR instrument, thus eliminating double entry of data. Finally, a button is pressed to make the eSOP automatically. The Protocol Module will automatically calculate the volumes required to make the Master Mix from the number of samples added to the protocol. The eSOP is then opened in the WellAware Module at which point WellAware will proceed to guide the operator through each pipetting step of the eSOP. When the protocol is pipetted, WellAware will prompt the operator to make the Master Mix at the beginning of the protocol.
